Meet Dr Ong, Founder of Ascend Medical
Dr Ong is a Cardiology and Medical Registrar based in Manchester. He is deeply passionate about supporting the next generation of doctors to succeed at national interviews, especially those navigating competitive specialties like Internal Medicine Training (IMT) and Cardiology.
Interview Expertise
Dr. Ong offers a unique dual perspective on interview preparation.
As a candidate, he secured his first-choice deaneries on his first attempt for both IMT and Cardiology. His success was built on self-devised interview frameworks, including one that earned him full marks in the Cardiology interview.
Later, as an IMT interview panellist, he gained firsthand insight into how candidates are truly assessed. His approach today blends the strategies that worked for him with the real-world expectations of interview panels.

Mentorship Legacy
Since launching his national interview course in 2025, Dr Ong has supported doctors across the UK with a 96% participant satisfaction rate. His mentorship has been especially impactful for trainees without local access to Cardiology guidance—with four of his mentees ranking in the top 30 nationally in the 2025 ST4 application cycle.

Educational Initiatives
Beyond interviews, Dr Ong is committed to clinical education and training. He is a certified instructor in both Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Focused Acute Medicine Ultrasound (FAMUS). He regularly teaches on ALS courses and mentors IMTs working towards ultrasound accreditation.
In 2022, as National Ambassador for the Somerville Heart Foundation, he launched a first-of-its-kind virtual teaching series in Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD). Collaborating with top consultants across the UK, he delivered a globally attended programme with participants from the UK, US, Australia, Canada, and Saudi Arabia.
